Jay-Z & Absolut: NY-Z
Finally got around to watching the Jay-Z and Abosult collaboration, a 15 minute documentary about Jay and his lead-up to a September 11th benefit concert at the legendary Madison Square Garden. The show also coencided with the launch of The Blueprint 3 (which I personally enjoyed way more than P4k.)
As a kid who grew-up in LA, I always feel a bit bad when I say this, but Jay-Z is my all-time favorite rapper. I always wanna come strong with some West Coast dude, but there’s just no one who can compare.
Even in this short, you can see just how motivated and driven and create Jay-Z is. He’s a rapper that’s evolved for every record, pushing his sound, his collaborations and trying to create something with meaning.
I wish the video wasn’t so “Empire State of Mind” centric, but it’s worth a watch if you have time. Especially for the John Mayer cameo.
And here’re a couple of tracks from the always excellent Jay-Z/Roots MTV Unplugged album.
